I’ve had 5 boyfriends, ranging from 18 months to 12 years. My second one was Greg Vargo, an adorable Kennedy-esque man who was just coming out when I met him on Fowler Beach in South Hampton in 1988. We dated for a year and a half. I took this photo of him on a golf course green on Fisher’s Island, New York in September 1988. My favorite memory is of us driving a rental car along the coast of Turkey in 1989. Greg had a sharp infectious laugh that people remembered him by. Unfortunately, he developed ALS and died at 59 at the outset of COVID. He was the sweetest guy, thanking me for our friendship in March 2020 and letting me know in different words that he was ready to die (four days later).
