I took my first trip to Thailand for Christmas in 1991, visiting a dear friend and his wife who worked for the US Embassy in Bangkok (he was the deputy ambassador). After New Year’s 1993, Speedy and I trained south overnight and then caught a bus across the narrow Thai peninsula to Krabi Province. Krabi, known for its karst formations (in the background here), was an undiscovered gem at that point. We went out one day on a longtail boat with several other tourists who we didn’t know. When the comely fellow pictured here draped his T-shirt over his face to protect it from the sun, I took advantage of the opportunity to film him lying languidly across the bow of the boat.
