Immediately after New Year’s in 1992, while visiting a husband-and-wife couple of my grad school friends in Bangkok, the husband and I trained overnight down the Malay Peninsula and then took a bus across to Krabi Province on the western coast / Andaman Sea. Krabi was just being discovered by tourists and Condé Nast Magazine named it their “destination of the year” during our visit. The coast overlooked the aquamarine waters of the sea, including many karst (eroded limestone) formations. In this photo, my travel companion and I had visited Ao Nang beach, a nearly deserted, striking landscape, where I captured a lone beachgoer performing tai chi exercises.
