In 1991, I traveled through the Caribbean from Miami to San Juan, Puerto Rico on my first gay cruise, courtesy of RSVP Cruises. Whereas I had been concerned I might go stir-crazy on a boat with 2,000 fellow passengers, the reverse was true: the overnight stops in 3 or 4 ports of call were pretty boring and bland, while the ship of passengers provided endless possibilities for new friends, new friends with benefits, or even a boyfriend. While that didn’t materialize for me, there were a lot of activities offered by the organizers, so I never got bored. This photo features a handful of my new friends. Whether by coincidence or not, I didn't remain in touch with them for long. Most were from the West Coast anyway, so it wasn’t practical to remain close for long.
