In December 1995 / New Year’s 1996, I flew to Rio and then São Paulo to visit someone who had evolved from being my “affair” to being my “friend.” Alessandro had introduced me remotely a couple of years earlier to Carlos Gama, Jr., a commercial photographer friend in São Paulo, whom I took out for his 30th birthday celebration in 1995 when he was in NYC. When we met up in São Paulo in 1996, he generously offered to photograph me in his apartment, and this shot (and another of me lying face down on his couch) resulted.
