I conceived of this shot after bumping into Robby Browne in the gay Fowler Beach parking lot in September 1993 (he was arriving and we were leaving) and obtaining his permission to take a few photos of him and our group (none visible here except Gustavo Otto, the muscular Chilean expat who was my photographic muse that year). As we were preparing to snap the picture, I had an idea and directed Gustavo to pull down his Speedo so that his white butt cheeks would be set off against his golden tan line. I remember thinking the horizontal line formed by the tan lines and Speedo would perfectly align with the horizontal chrome that ran across the body of the convertible. This photo has become iconic and is perhaps the most popular among those in my public collection.
