At the 1993 National March on Washington for Lesbian, Gay, and Bi Equal Rights and Liberation in D.C. (the third in 14 years), an estimated 300,000 to 1 million queers and their families gathered to demand our civil rights and to protest against the newly introduced military policy deemed “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” Here is a rousing shot of the crowd on the National Mall. When this photo was included in my most recent exhibition in Palm Springs in October 1995, one of the gallery attendees actually found himself in this crowd and later purchased the image.
